Warming hearts!

During January 2015, ADRA Lebanon organized a Soup Kitchen Day for Syrian refugees and local host community. Lebanon had been experiencing a harsh winter and in January temperatures had dropped to nearly freezing. Thus, ADRA Lebanon team came together and prepared 3 types of hot, home cooked soup including traditional lentil soup, a firm favourite in the Middle East.  Families from the host and refugee communities were invited to a local municipality hall to enjoy a bowl of their chosen soup served with fresh bread and boiled eggs. The Soup Kitchen event attracted   77 women, 5 men and 182 children from both host and refugee families.  Families not only enjoyed a hot meal, but had a chance to relax, chat and make new friends. Each month ADRA Lebanon holds at least one joint community event for Lebanese and Syrian refugees living in Boucherieh, Mt. Lebanon every month. The joint events are aimed at enhancing social cohesion between host and refugee communities. Boucherieh like many other areas in Lebanon has seen an influx of refugees and the Lebanese have been very accommodating and patient with their new neighbours. ADRA Lebanon supports the Lebanese community and continues to promote understanding and encourage tolerance through organizing community events that brings both Lebanese and Syrian refugee families together.
