Yemen: Abyan and Lahj Livelihoods Assistance
The YALLA project, which is a two year project that began in September 2013, targets vulnerable families with no regular source of income and provides them with in-kind materials to begin new livelihoods. Beneficiaries are carefully selected according to their capacity to sustain the livelihood they receive assistance in starting up. Those with land receive livestock, beehives, or irrigation materials depending on their previous experience, while those in coastal areas receive fishing boats. An additional group of beneficiaries receives materials to open a small business of their choosing. After the distribution the beneficiaries are regularly checked up on to assess the impact of the assistance they received and to help resolve problems that may have arisen.
